FACT SHEET FOR H.C.M. 2002

 

urging Congress; increase customs personnel

 

Purpose

 

Urges the United States Congress (Congress) to increase Customs Field Office personnel at the ports of entry in Nogales, Douglas and San Luis.

 

Background

 

United States Customs and Border Protection is responsible for enforcing the laws of the United States while fostering economic security through lawful international trade and travel. Customs and Border Protection regulates port of entry points to screen foreign visitors, returning American citizens and all imported cargo entering the United States. There are United States commercial primary land ports of entry located in Nogales, Douglas and San Luis, Arizona.

 

There is no anticipated fiscal impact to the state General Fund associated with this legislation.

 

Provisions

 

1.      Urges Congress to increase and maintain staffing for Customs Field Office personnel at the ports of entry in Nogales, Douglas and San Luis in order to speed the flow of goods and commerce.

 

2.      Directs the Arizona Secretary of State to transmit a copy of this memorial to the President of the U.S. Senate, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and each member of Congress from the State of Arizona.
